Instructors
The Birmingham Goju Ryu Karate Academy has two qualified instructors
Sensei Jervice (4th Dan)
I started training in 1991, with the late Sensei Warren Easy, 2 or 3 weeks after my wife Margaret started and she challenged me to attend a class, so I thought I'd give it a go and here I am still doing it 20 odd years later.
Classes are structured around the GKI syllabus, my approach is firm with a sprinkling of humour. but I expect my students to show commitment and an enthusiasm to learn. whether that be the more senior grades or the beginner starting off their journey in Goju Ryu karate.
I currently hold the grade of Yondon (4th Dan) awarded by Shihan James Rousseau (9th Dan) in May 2017.
I am also a certified coaching /instructor, DBS checked and Certified in 1st aid.
Sensei Margaret (3rd Dan)
Started Goju Ryu karate along with my mother in 1991, with the late Sensei Warren Easy, but his classes were anything but like his surname. I enjoyed the training, attending up to 3x per week when possible.
After reaching 1st kyu I took a break of over 10 years due to having 3 children, and returned in 2006. 2 years later I achieved my Shodan from Shihan James Rousseau (9th Dan), and 3 years after that my Nidan from Shihan Leonard Sim (7th Dan).
At the 2014 summer Gasshuku in Chichester I was pleased to be awarded my sandan (3rd Dan) by Shihan James Rousseau (9th Dan). I am also a certified coaching /instructor, DBS checked and Certified in 1st aid.
